JAMES HILLMAN
ABOUT ME
I'm James, the founder of James Hillman Fashion Consultancy.
I've spent my career making clothes — and helping other people make theirs. I studied fashion at Kingston and Central St Martins, then cut my teeth working with some of the best in the business. I was mentored by Elio Fiorucci in Milan, worked at Balmain in Paris, BCBG in the south of France, and with Korean designer Moon Young Hee.
Along the way, I won the Mittelmoda Levi's Award for sustainable clothing, showed collections at London Fashion Week, opened Amsterdam Fashion Week, and worked on projects I still can't talk about.
In 2012, I set up this consultancy. The idea was simple — take everything I'd learned from working at the top end of the industry and use it to help brands get from idea to finished product, properly. Fourteen years later, that's still what we do. We've worked with start-ups who had nothing but a thought, and with established labels who needed someone to sort out their weaknesses, special projects or their production.
What sets us apart is how we use technology. We build and test garments digitally using 3D software and CGI before cutting a single sample. It's faster, more cost-effective, and it gives our clients a much clearer picture of what they're going to get.
I'm direct. I'll tell you what I think, not what you want to hear. And I care about getting the product right — not just getting it done.
